The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced plans for EDSA Greenways Project, which was initiated by the government to ease commuting experience and promote greener cities in the NCR.
By linking pedestrians and commuters to mass transit stations, it aims to encourage the utilization of public transportation. This means enhancing the pedestrian environment along EDSA and near four stations of MRT 3, such as covering and elevating pedestrian walkways situated in Balintawak and Cubao within Quezon City, Guadalupe in Makati City, and Taft Avenue in Pasay City.
At a gathering of the EDSA Greenways Project Inter-Agency Coordinating Council (PIACC), James Andres Melad, the Assistant Secretary for Road Transport and Infrastructure at the Department of Transportation (DOTr), highlighted the project’s objective of enhancing the transportation system to drive economic growth.
He stated, “This harmonization is crucial for shaping a more sustainable future and creating greener cities that are safe, commuter and pedestrian-friendly, as well as accessible for all.
The meeting was also attended by representatives from national and local government units, focused on discussing resettlement and livelihood support for project-affected individuals.
Upon completion, the pedestrian infrastructure will feature elevators and monitoring systems for enhanced functionality.
